We have started a new core book this week, ‘Superworm’ by Julia Donaldson.
We have thought about what makes a super hero and have designed our own superheroes this week based on the books we have read this half term.
We also discussed how we could keep ourselves safe, for example not crossing the roads without an adult, not talking to people we don’t know and telling a parent if we were upset about something or had been hurt.
We also watched the video below on road safety, click on the image to watch it at home together.
In maths this week, we have been learning about using our fingers to count up to 5.
We have finger rhymes, such as ‘One elephant went out to play’ and ‘5 Currant buns in the Baker shop’, and have also used digit cards to embed our knowledge of numbers 1-5.
You can support your child to count up to 5 when out and about by asking them to count 5 items, such as cars, trees, windows, flowers or people. Ask them to use their fingers to count as they see one of each item, up to 5.
In phonics this week, we have recapped the sounds that we have learnt so far and have embedded our blending skills by revisiting the words that we have practised in the past.
We have been listening to words beginning with the phoneme ‘f’ For example, fish, frog, flower and flamingo. We have also been practising blending words beginning with the phoneme ‘h’. We have been blending words, fish f-i-sh, fan f-a-n, foot f-oo-t, farm f-ar-m
Our nursery rhyme for this week was ‘ Baa, baa, black sheep’.
It has been another busy week in nursery as we end the Spring term. Everyone has been busy with lots of different Easter themed activities, including making cards, cooking Easter nests, decorating eggs, painting and making bunnies from playdough. We have also been busy creating balance beams with the large Lego blocks, retelling stories with the hand puppets and building with small blocks to make enclosures for wild animals and dinosaurs.
Outside, we have been busy in the canopy area and have enjoyed pouring and scooping in the sand, playing in the water tray, shopping in the new supermarket, racing the Scuttlebugs and playing on the slide with our friends. In the larger area, we have been digging, looking for Superworm and his friends and collecting flowers to make potions.
We would like to wish all the children and their families a happy and restful break. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday 13th April 2026 at the usual times!
If you have some time this weekend or during the Easter break, it would be wonderful if you could:
Sing number nursery rhymes with your child, encouraging them to hold up the corresponding number of fingers throughout the song. You may want to watch the following examples:

Please look at your child’s online Tapestry journal with them to see everything they have been achieving this half term. You may also want to add your own observations from home or special days out.
