Dear Families,
Congratulations to MLK Jr class who dazzled the school with their sharing assembly on Wednesday. They presented learning from across all areas of the curriculum beautifully and also included one of our favourite songs.
We were also lucky that some of or talented musicians played the violin and piano to welcome us into the hall. We often have our children performing at the start of assembly and we are fortunate to have so many talented individuals. Enfield Music Service are running a competition for talented pianists and I'm sure we have some in our community who would love to enter. There is more information below and if you would like an application form please contact the school office
Next week is Mental Health Awareness week with a theme all about the power of movement to support mental health. We try as much as possible in school to boost our pupils mental well being with regular periods of movement at playtime and lunchtime and also with two PE lessons a week and the daily mile.
Our lunchtime and playtime equipment, which encourages play, has sadly dwindled over the past year and so our wonderful PTFA have put together a wish list to help us replace and replenish it. If you are able to support us by purchasing any of the items on the list it will be greatly appreciated:

Next week our amazing Year 6 children are sitting their KS2 SATs. We know that they are super ready to take on this challenge and that they will all do their very best. Year 6, make sure you have a restful weekend and do some movement to boost your mental health. We are all here on Monday, as always, to support and encourage you-you got this!

They have designed a questionnaire which has been anonymised to enable honest feedback and the results will be used to inform decisions made by the SEND Partnership.
The link for the questionnaire can be found here:
https://forms.office.com/e/F1nk5ZXYSA
The questionnaire will remain open until Monday 3rd June 2024, but early completion is appreciated.
They is also a drop in session with the Heads of the local authority SEN department to voice your views and concerns. The details are below.
Library Plea!
I’m sure you’ll all agree that our Library is looking absolutely gorgeous at the moment. We want our Library to be an inviting space for our children to find a comfy spot and get lost in a book.
To help us to achieve this, we would really appreciate donations of any large, colourful cushions and bean bags that are in good condition and need re-homing. Please drop any donations to the school office. Thank you!

Garden Working Party: Saturday 11th May 10am - 3pm 🎨 🌷👩🏾🌾
We have put in our request for good weather and it looks to be granted!
We aim to create tyre planters, painting and planting them up to bring some colour and greenery to the school. We also aim to enclose a nature space at the back of the field with homespun fencing.
Can you spare an hour or so to help? We need willing volunteers (big and small!) to get messy, muddy and creative! Wear old clothes, strong shoes and, if you can, bring along some (old) paint brushes.
We would love some bedding plants for the new planters; empty (and full!) compost bags and any outdoor paint you might have lying around.
If you have some tools and bolts that can be used to secure the planters / fencing please bring them along too.
Looking forward to seeing you there! Don't forget to slip slap slop! 👒😎
Amazon Wishlist ⚽ 🏀 ⛹🏾♀️
We love how active Lavender children are during their outdoor play times. However, sometimes the equipment they play with can get broken or lost and although passers by help to throw stuff back, it always seems to dwindle during the year!
In partnership with the staff, we have created an Amazon wishlist of the items they would love to get. Please consider buying from our list. If you see something on the list you would like to buy elsewhere (or already have and wish to donate!), please bring to school for the attention of PTFA or Mrs Griffiths or directly into nursery.
Here is the link to our Amazon wishlist:

Come along and buy a gift or cake for that fatherly figure in your life!
Summer fayre: Sunday 21st July
We are celebrating the summer and end of term by having our Lavender summer fayre. This is a lovely occasion where we all get together, buy something nice to eat and drink, play some traditional fayre games and hopefully bask in the sun! This does not happen by magic, obviously, so we need as many hands as possible to make it work. Please get in touch with your class rep to join the planning and prep group. When we know numbers of helpers, we can plan an event that fits. So, if you want to come and along and enjoy the fayre, please consider helping to make it possible too.

Would you like to become the new PTFA secretary?
Be a part of the PTFA decision making team, plan exciting fundraising events and maybe write the weekly newsletter! This role will be available for election in October. We at the PTFA believe that fresh ideas and new people in a team are great. If you would like to join the team, the other members of the committee are there to help too. We hold monthly committee meetings and work collaboratively to raise money and plan events for all the children at Lavender to enjoy. You can do most of these around your other commitments and work so don’t be shy!
Please contact your class rep or one of the PTFA team to find out more about what the role involves.
Dogs in the Playground
We love our four legged friends here at Lavender but please remember that if you need to bring your dog into the playground they must be carried- at all times.
Snacks & Lunchtimes
New School Dinner Menu - Provided by LUNCHTIME COMPANY
This document details the school dinner menu that runs on a three-weekly cycle.
There is no longer a need to pre-book for school dinners-just decide on the day!
Snacks
Please be reminded that break time snacks and after school club snacks MUST be a healthy. Some ideas of snacks children could bring to school are below:
fruit vegetables peperami bread sticks
cereal bars & rice cakes
(no chocolate or marshmallows)
NO NUTS OR SEEDS
Please remember we are a NO NUT SCHOOL. This is also extended to seeds. Some members of our school community have severe allergies to nuts and seeds, and food products containing them.
Your child must not bring in any products containing nuts and seeds as a snack or as part of their packed lunch. This includes seeded bread, hummus (which contains sesame), pesto (which contains pine nuts), peanut butter and chocolate spread (which often contains nuts).

We rescue good, surplus food from the food industry that cannot be sold and would otherwise go to waste. This is high-quality and nutritious, including a high proportion of fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, salads, meat and fish. We collect or receive food from over 539 suppliers, including supermarkets, wholesalers, farms, restaurants and delis.
We then sort and then deliver this food to almost 1000 front-line charities, primary schools and holiday programmes in London. That way, food that would have gone to waste is reaching vulnerable people, homeless, people with mental health or those who simply cannot afford to buy regular, healthy food.
Lavender have a delivery every Wednesday. Food will be available at the end of the school day under the KS1 or KS2 shelter. We ask that you take a small amount each so in these difficult financial times all our families are able to benefit.
