The APTA defines integrity as steadfast adherence to high ethical principles or standards, being truthful, ensuring fairness, following through on commitments, and verbalizing to others the rationale for actions.
I have embodied a steadfast adherence to high ethical principles, ensuring fairness, and verbalizing to other the rationale for actions through my role as a mentor to the first year IUI DPT class of 2027. As I student mentor I helped facilitate an environment where the first years could meet and communicate with each other and with us mentors. I also provided support to the first years by encouraging them before each of their exams, referring them to resources where they could get help academically and socially, and provided guidance for their transition from the summer into their first full-time semester of graduate school in the Fall. I presented to the first-year class on all of the possible opportunities within the program to get involved in clubs, research, work, and explained the purpose of finding something you are passionate about within the field. During the Fall semester, us mentors organized and hosted the Getting Involved Fair for the first years to get exposed to all the clubs and research opportunities that the IU DPT program has to offer. This experience helped grow my understanding of integrity by giving me the opportunity to shape the culture of a class and integrate high ethical principles into them before they started their journey as full time PT students.

My introductory slide suring our first TA session
As a TA I organized meetings with the first years students. We created a Google Form for them to fill out with any specific topics they were struggling with and wanted us to focus on. We then talked about specific topics we knew would be important for that specific block. Being a TA shows my integrity because I hold myself to high ethical principle standards and want to impart those on the first year class as they grow within the IU DPT program.
