The APTA defines Collaboration as the act working together with patients and clients, families, communities, and professionals in health and other fields to achieve shared goals. Collaboration within the physical therapist‐physical therapist assistant team is working together, within each partner’s respective role, to achieve optimal physical therapist services and outcomes for patients and clients.
The IU Physical Therapy 10th Annual Golf Outing is an engaging and fun event to bring together professionals and students of the physical therapy profession. Proceeds will benefit the Zachary Gregory Emerging Leadership Scholarship and the Foundation of Physical Therapy Research Marquette Challenge. Zach Gregory (DPT '10) was an inspirational student and professional contributor who left this world much too soon. Faculty, staff, fellow alumni, and Zach’s family honored his memory by establishing an endowed scholarship that recognizes students who demonstrate academic and professional leadership. I was on a golfing team with two clinicians from Tx Team (Dr. Mitch Parsons and Dr. Jim Camden) as well as a first-year IU DPT student (Sam Bowman). This event, held at Southern Dunes Golf Course, greatly helped my understanding of collaboration grow because it showed me the power of community within the PT field that can be created out of tragedy and the importance of community for networking and genuine human connection.

We had an amazing co-treatment experience with OT students where we were assigned a patient with a neurological condition and led them through four treatment sessions together to simulate an outpatient nerological experience. This experience was an incredible opportunity to work with the OT students and with a patient with a neurological deficit and helped my understanding of collaboration grow by giving me real-world experience in working with different healthcare professionals.
