Copy of Honors H200 Introduction

As an H200 mentor for 3 semesters I have been responsible for preparing weekly presentation material and fairly grading assignments. In this class we educate new honors college students on cognitive biases, self identification, and techniques for success so that they are better prepared for the rigor of honors classes. I have learned a lot about assessing understanding and leading a diverse group through this experience.

As an organic chemistry and general chemistry recitation leader for 3 semesters I was responsible for completing problems prior to leading a session with up to 30 students for 1-2.5 hours of problem review. This classroom structure encourages students to ask questions and solve problems in groups which can help students who are excelling and students who are struggling alike. I really enjoyed teaching chemistry recitation because it challenged me to be a better listener.

As a biomechanics recitation leader and TA  I am responsible for completing weekly problems, grading, and hosting office hours with  students. This role has challenged me with additional responsibilities this semester, as this is my 3rd semester as a biomedical engineering recitation leader. I have learned a lot about time management and building individual professional relationships as opposed to group relationships. I am excited to continue learning and helping my students learn as this is their first biomedical engineering class!
