What is it actually like to be a high school student with ADHD? Imagine your favourite TV show playing on a screen in the corner of the room, at twice the volume of your teacher's voice. Or your country’s team in a live penalty shootout in the World Cup final projected on the ceiling while you're doing a lab experiment. Or maybe being surrounded by kittens while trying to write an AP exam.
How about being told off three times more often than other students, and receiving significantly less praise than your peers? What if your relationships with teachers seemed far less friendly, and more conflictual, than everyone else’s? What would it feel like to be told you need to work harder and focus more when you are doing both at your maximum capacity?
In 2025, Learning Support went back to the drawing board with ADHD, accessing the latest academic discourse to refresh and update our understanding of the diagnosis. We’ve put together a workshop for teachers aimed at sharing these insights and challenging subject planning groups to reflect on their planning and practice with ADHD in mind. The workshop continues its tour through departments in the new school year, but we encourage you to take a peek at the slides and videos in advance.
