Topic 1: Atomic structure

Firstly we will review the information about elements, compounds and mixtures that you learnt about in grade 7 and 8.  We'll brainstorm in small groups, then make sure you've covered all the key points on slides 8-15 in the presentation below.

Slides 15 - 17 also explain about the structure of an atom and that it is made up of protons, neutrons and electrons.

You can find out how many protons, neutrons and electrons are in an atom by using the mass number and atomic number to work it out. Watch the following video to find out how and also look at slides 17 - 20.
