All grade levels from PS-5 participate in this unit during the school year. Students swim once every 8-Day cycle.
Aquatic Safety: In the lower elementary classes, students are encouraged to be water safe and water smart. The upper elementary classes focus on what to do if they find themselves or someone else in a difficult situation.
Swim Strokes: The major strokes taught are freestyle (PS-5), breaststroke (PS-5), backstroke (Grades 1-5), survival backstroke (PS) and sidestroke (2-5). Strokes are broken down into the fundamentals of legs, arms, breathing and body streamlining.
Aquatic Games: Students play modified games such as water polo, aqua bowling, water basketball and more... Some of the games involve the use of pool aids. The goal of aquatic games is to improve overall water fitness and confidence while developing teamwork and cooperation skills.
