Joanna Faith Tan is an independent dance artist, dance educator, and certified BASI Pilates instructor. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Dance) from Belhaven University (USA). Growing up as a third-culture kid, her fascination with new places and spaces has inspired her boundless pursuit of movement and choreography.
As a dance artist, she was a member of Ad Deum II Dance Company (USA), and has collaborated with Nibroll Dance Company under Mikuni Yanaihara (Japan), PGK Dance Project (USA), Remnant Dance Theatre (Australia), San Diego Dance Theater, and somebodies dance theater (USA).
As a dance educator, she has taught for the Annunciation Orthodox School Houston (USA), HELP International School, Mont’Kiara International School, PGK Dance Project’s Ascend program (USA), Project Dance (USA), River Oaks School of Dancing (USA) and Youth With A Mission (Hong Kong). She is currently based in Kuala Lumpur as a teaching artist, while pursuing a low-residency Master of Fine Arts in Dance at Hollins University (USA) in association with The Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, The University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt, and Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt (Germany).
LIM PEI ERN grew up in Sabah, Malaysia. She completed Advanced II in RAD Ballet, and represented her state in the Malaysian Sport Games, SUKMA 2006 in Rhythmic Gymnastics. She graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts with First Class Honour BA (Hons) in Dance. She was invited to dance for Odyssey Dance Theatre in 2012 and has since danced for international choreographers such as Wu Yi San (Taiwan/Hong Kong), Akiko Kitamura (Japan), Marie Gabrielle Rotie (United Kingdom), Inma Marin (Spain), Ergao (China) as well as Singapore choreographers Melissa Quek, Susan Yeung and Albert Tiong. In 2015, she performed for John Mead Dance Company and taken in as an apprentice for 2nd Company with T.H.E Dance Company Singapore. In Malaysia, Pei Ern worked as Full-time Professional Dancer with DPAC Dance Company, Kuala Lumpur since 2015 and in 2017, she works as an independent artist.
Kenny Shim, a graduate from Edge Dance Company (London Contemporary Dance School) and completed his BA in Contemporary Dance in Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, has been training with various teachers from all around the world. With an aptitude in choreography, Kenny has crafted works that have toured around Europe namely, ‘Within’ and ‘Rite’. During his training in the UK, Kenny have worked with choreographers and companies from around Europe such as Wayne McGregor, Shobana Jayasighn, Tom Roden, Alexander Whitley, Phillipe Blanchard, Gary Lambert, Alison Curtis-Jones, Lea Anderson, Joseph Toonga, Jeanne Yasko and Fred Ghedrig. Verse with various contemporary technique, Kenny intends to increase the knowledge and contemporary practices here in Malaysia with studio and performance work.
Rabiatul Adawiah Bt Abdul Wahid also known as Ruby was active in competitions and performances during her school days. Ruby has a Diploma and Bachelor of Dance (Performance) majoring in the Malay martial arts form of silat from ASWARA. Ruby is also considered one of the brightest talents in the traditional theatre form of Makyung, Bangsawan,Randai and Mekmulung where her ability to act and sing is utilized.
She has worked professionally in musical theatres such as Ibu Zain, Tun Abdul Razak, Uda dan Dara and Cuci the Musical, performed under the Temple of Fine Art’s ‘Swan Festival of Light’, Asia Dance Company in Seoul, Korea and at the World Crossover in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Philippines and Thailand. She was also selected for the ASEAN-Japan Dance Project in 2013 and recently won the silver medal in Kejuaraan Silat Seni Asli Kebangsaan dan Jemputan competition. Ruby has taught at Permata Seni under the Department of Arts and Culture.
Steve Willis is originally from Sydney Australia, graduating from the Australian College of Physical Education. He has a background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitzu & self-defence, where he combines the two, teaching students and teachers alike. He has taught in London, Sydney & currently is in his second year at ISKL. Steve believes that through martial arts, you can create a strong sense of awareness through movement & become more in tune with yourself.
Aaron Kong is an engaging and experienced Hip-Hop teacher and versatile performer. He is a member of Red Lycans Dance Crew, and was a semi-finalist for one of Malaysia’s most anticipated dancing competitions, Astro Battleground in 2016.
As a founder and teacher for Sunway University’s Dance Club program, he was a producer for their 2015 production, Viva La Botas.
Amar is the founder, choreographer and resident instructor at the Dance Blaze Academy in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. His one mission is to spread the joy of dance across Malaysia and the rest of the world. Amar’s early experience in the performing art of dance commenced at an early mainly in the non-Latin genres of Bhangra, Bollywood, Break Dancing and Hip Hop.
He is the Lead Choreographer and the reason behind the foundation and the success of the Malaysia’s leading Bhangra and Bollywood dance group, Malaysian Shaan-E-Punjab. In 2005 Amar started teaching Cuban Salsa in Kuala Lumpur in 2005 when heestablished himself as the resident instructor at Salsa Havana Club, Kuala Lumpur and continued there for the next 5 years. In 2010, Amar set on a nationwide tour to conduct a series of dance workshops called “The Malaysian Latin Dance Tour by Amar”.
He is also very highly sought after internationally and some of his tours and workshops include those at the Club Med Resort in Phuket, The Julio Colmena Dance School in York, and the Vivek Ranga Dance Academy in Karnal Haryana, India. He regularly attends congresses and festivals in Europe, particularly in England and Ireland and has even brought his dance to as far as Holland.
Over the years, he has been recognized as a leading figure in the Malaysian dance industry and has been invited to judge competitions which include The Refugee Children’s Dance Competition organized by the United Nations in 2011, The Malaysian Latin Dance Championships in 2011 and 2012 and others. Besides being respected in the bhangra scene Amar is hugely popular among the Malaysian salsa faithful and is recognized for his unique style of Cuban Salsa and his versatility in infusing the various flavors of Afro-Cuban and hip hop dance styles into his dance repertoires. A crowd favorite in the Malaysian social salsa circuit, Amar continues to wow the masses with his freestyle and groovy dance moves.
The evolution of his passion soon led him to establish his own unique blend of super-sexy bachata, which has found popularity in Malaysia and around the world. Apart from salsa and bachata, Amar also teaches various other dance styles such as Reggaeton, Afro-Cuban Rumba (Guaguanco), hip hop, total body isolation and so on.
Maybelline Wong is a recognized and highly regarded dancer, choreographer and teacher. She is known for her crazy flow, as she oozes charm and sexiness in every performance. With her unique and killer understanding of dance styles, flow and performance showmanship has made her a go-to choreographer and performer for both local and international music videos, performances and brand campaigns.
Not one to be stuck in the genres of Street Jazz and Girl Style, it would not be a surprise to see this versatile dancer inject Hip Hop, House and other styles into her performances and choreography. Increasingly, Maybelline has been seen as a leader and a force to be reckoned with in dance and lifestyle circles. Her aim for any dance class is always for students to let go, be in the moment, and have a real good time.
