Building: Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School
Role: Paraprofessional
As we approach the one-year anniversary of every aspect of our lives being turned upside down, we are reaching out to you to take some time to reflect on all the growth and learning that has taken place.
What has changed in your paraprofessional role since last March (COVID 19)?
It took some time getting used to this whole working from home/virtually. I had to find ways to connect with the students that I would work with, that wasn't face to face. I had to rely more on email, and hope that the students would receive them.
What have you learned from these changes?
I have learned to be patient and be prepared for delays. There would be some days that I would be on a Zoom with some students and there would be something that wouldn't work, such as the sound wouldn't work or something wouldn't be uploaded. It was important for me to make sure to show that I wasn't frustrated in front of my students.
What would you like to keep/continue to use in the future as a paraprofessional?
I would like to continue to use effective communication. Sending reminders such as missing work or what is being taught in class for the day, when students are gone from class for the day.
What is something you will remember about the past year in education?
Each day presented a new challenge, I thought it was interesting to see how well a good chunk of the students would be doing virtually. It was good to see kids checking in making sure they are getting things done, that they needed to do.
What are your reflections as a para on the current status of our “new normal” moving forward?
I'll always be prepared when it comes to using technology. I've become more confident in figuring out how everything works.
