ANIMAL RELOCATION ADVICE
Your accommodation options decrease when you have a pet and getting a right fit apartment or house can be trickier but is doable. Patience is the key.
PET PASSPORT
You should visit your local vet to discuss the preparation of a pet passport for your animal. If your dog or cat is entering Germany from a rabies-free country or rabies-controlled-country, it will need a 15 digit ISO compliant pet microchip, then a rabies vaccination (in that order) at least 21 days prior to transport*. After microchip implantation, re-vaccination and waiting period has passed, your pet can enter Germany without a wait time as long as booster vaccinations are given on time and your pet continues to meet the other entry requirements.
If your pet is entering Germany from a high-rabies country, it must also have a rabies blood titer test done no sooner than 30 days after vaccination and at least 90 days prior to transport. Select the option above for additional forms and instructions.
If you or your designated representative are traveling with or within 5 days of your dog, cat or ferret from a country outside of the EU, a licensed veterinarian must complete a non-commercial EU health certificate within 10 days of travel. If you or your designated representative are not traveling with or within 5 days of your pet, then a commercial EU health certificate will be required.
Hannover airport began accepting pets on flights in Spring of 2016 so now after many years of Frankfurt being the only place that staff had to go to pick their pets up they can be received right here at their final destination. We recommend using a professional pet relocation service as the school cannot be responsible for the relocation of your pets.
Make sure your dog is protected against ticks. There are a high number of ticks carrying a variety of European tick borne diseases and a lot of ticks if you get out into the grass.
LIABILITY INSURANCE
Legally your dog needs to have liability insurance (Hundehaftpflichtversicherung). This is fairly inexpensive and can be arranged through an independent insurance broker Jens Werner is an English speaking broker who can help set up a variety of insurance needs and does not charge a fee.
