Secondary Duty Cover Expectations:
Key Responsibilities By Area
Note: In the case of an injury, notify reception & nurse asap (send two students). In the case of an emergency send an older student into the main office. Inform the appropriate section head as soon as possible.
Please wear a High Visibility Vest for all your duties. Please circulate around the assigned area.
Secondary Garden
The Secondary Garden (space between the B and C blocks) is designated as a quiet space. If students want to play ball or run around then they need to move to the playground area and field. Nobody should be sitting on or playing on the fire escape stairs. Please direct students to the playground if they use the garden inappropriately.
The duty teacher please locate yourself in the secondary garden. There is a high degree of teacher footfall in the rotunda area ensuring requirement for student supervision is minimal.
Zone 2
All ball games must take place away from the rotunda and front windows eg over by the 5-a-side goals or on the playing field. In-line skates, bicycles and skateboards are prohibited for safety reasons.
Zone 3
Ensure that you circulate from the I wing patio to inside the I wing. If students inside are not sitting quietly, ask them to leave the building.
Note: Students cannot use the PE area during breaks unless for a specified and supervised event. Keep the grass area from behind the Junior music room to the PE entrance clear of students.
Dining Room
Be vigilant and walk around. Keep a check that students are putting away their used plates and cutlery properly, ask them to clear it up. If a student spills something, ask them to get cleaning / help from Dining Hall staff to clean it up. Various cleaning materials (buckets, cloths & mop) are kept in the dining room.
Ensure that the queue is orderly.
Once the queue is going smoothly, do a quick check that no students are hanging around the locker area in the bottom B corridor. Students are not allowed to enter by the door next to the kitchen. Send them back to enter by the main door. Otherwise, this area gets crowded and it is difficult for canteen staff to clear the tray trolleys.
Bad Weather / Very Cold Weather
The students stay in their classrooms, the teacher teaching a class before break is expected to supervise the students.
