Change of seating
Why should it be done?
Gives students a sense of power and control
Allows students to be comfortable (an uncomfortable student is a distracted one)
Removes students away from distractions
Allows student to be around students that exhibit positive behavior
Allows opportunity for sensory input and stimulation that can help students focus
When should it be done?
When students are struggling to stay in their area
When students are very hyper
When sitting in one spot or a particular area is not allowing student(s) to be successful
How should it be done?
Speak with the class about allowing students about changing seats
Inform them of your expectations (they should know that changing seats or standing is not free time)
Provide models of appropriate and inappropriate behaviors
Allow students to practice while you monitor
When you feel comfortable you can start implementing in your classroom
