The IRRI-AFSTRI Alumni Scholarship (IAAS)
Scholarship description:
The IRRI-AFSTRI Alumni Scholarship (IAAS) provides one-time funding assistance to undergraduate and master’s students who are in their final year, and working on rice or rice-related research for completion of their thesis. The goal of the scholarship is to promote rice science and research among young agricultural students.
Target group: Bachelor's and Master's students working on rice-related research from low income countries and academic institutions in Asia and Africa.

The International Rice Research Institute is hosting this scholarship.
Fields of study:
Bachelors and Masters level in Agriculture, Plant Sciences, or agriculture and plant-related disciplines
Scholarship award:
The scholarship will provide a one-time grant of USD 600 for bachelor’s degree students and USD 1,000 for master’s degree students to cover research cost, tuition fee and allowance in the final year of their degree.
Number of awards (2015):
2 Undergraduate (BSc, BA, or equivalent) awards of USD 600 each
2 Master's level (MS or equivalent) of USD 1000 each
Eligibility:
To be considered, the student must meet ALL of the following requirements:
be a citizen of a developing country in Asia (South Asia or East Asia) or Sub-Saharan Africa
be enrolled in a university in a developing country in Asia or Sub-Saharan Africa (See above; not necessarily in their country of citizenship)
be enrolled in disciplines related to Agriculture
be planning to conduct a research project directly involving cultivated rice (Oryza sativa or Oryza glaberrima)
have an average grade of at least 80% or its equivalent, with no grade lower than 80% or its equivalent in any major subject
have completed academic requirements leading to a Bachelor’s degree or Master's degree and must be in the final year or ready to conduct the thesis research
not be a beneficiary of major financial assistance or scholarships from other sources at the time of application

Applications to the first round of the 2015 IAAS must be received on or before December 31, 2015.
Application instructions:
Applicants to the 2015 IAAS must send in a complete portfolio including all of the following documents in order to be considered for the scholarship:
Application Form
Detailed research proposal, with budget, approved by academic committee
An official copy of their academic transcript with grades of all academic courses, from first year to present, with percentage equivalent
A signed recommendation letter from their university supervisor/head stating that the university supports the student’s application
