Nepal was hit by major earthquakes, of 7.9 magnitude on 25th April, of 7.3 magnitude on the 12th May, and several earthquakes and aftershocks in between and thereafter. These series of quakes have killed about 10,000 people, injured more than 17,000 and destroyed most houses throughout the country, leaving millions of people homeless. Several governments, INGOs, social organizations and individuals from across the world have joined hands to rescue, provide relief to the affected people and rebuild Nepal. All affected people are in need of basic goods such as drinking water, food and shelter, with the situation worsening each day due to adverse weather conditions. Moreover, landslides and floods pose greater danger with the monsoon season expected in mid June.
In this time of great need, we the officers and members of AFSTRI, on behalf of the Institute, have initiated an IRRI-wide collection of donation to be sent to Nepal, as our support and prayers to the victims.
You may deposit your donations directly to AFSTRI’s bank account or handover checks or cash to AFSTRI Executive Committee members mentioned below. All donations made to this relief effort will be posted on this page.
We will close the donation drive on 15th June 2015. The collected amount will then be transferred to Nepal’s Prime Ministers relief fund (http://pmrelief.opmcm.gov.np/default.aspx), with confirmation of payment posted on their website.
We also request that you please relay our petition to your colleagues, friends and relatives to help us with this cause.
