Journey through time using film, TV, graphic novels, and other media to explore stories of fascinating historical events, people, and places by critically evaluating how they are retold and reinterpreted in popular culture.
Inquiry-based & project-centered
gather evidence, analyze multiple sources of information
wrestle with questions of source reliability, point of view, & historical interpretation
Key questions will guide our exploration:
“Who gets to tell the story? What perspectives are missing?”
“What happens when cultures collide?”
"Does change always mean progress?”
“What makes someone a hero or a villain?”
This one-semester course will challenge students to deepen their understanding of the past while sharpening their critical thinking skills, and to become active participants in the ongoing process of historical interpretation.
