What is the purpose of art?

It is the production of artwork using the knowledge and understanding of structures, media and processes, rooted in the artist's intention based on their unique perception of the world.  This being a visual manifestation of  an expression or communication of emotions, ideas, feelings, ceremonial rituals, celebrations, commemoration, functional art (creation of objects used in daily life), persuasive, promotion of ideas or products, advertising, ideology, narrative, descriptive or illustration of experiences, to document politic, social, historical or contemporary events.
