Year 5

Welcome back! We trust that you and your children had a fantastic half term break and are now rejuvenated and eager to continue their exciting year at Rockliffe Manor. We are thrilled to present the Year 5 curriculum newsletter for the spring term, where you can explore the incredible learning opportunities that await your children during this upcoming period.

Reminder: School journey is 11th-15th March, please ensure your child brings a sleeping bag and pillow and one packed lunch for the first day. 

English

In English the children will be reading Windrush Child by Benjamin Zephaniah and creating their own internal monologue.   

Maths

In Maths, the children will be learning about the equivalents in fractions, decimals and percentages. And then moving on to calculating area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes.

Science

In Science, the children will be answering the question "Why are life cycles different?" To help them answer this question they will learn about the different life cycles in different types of plants.

History 

 In history, they children will be learning which local and nationally significant events have shaped the UK in the last 30 years. This will involve the Empire Windrush generation.

Computing

In online safety, the children will be learning about managing online information effectively. And in computing they will further develop their physical programming skills by learning to use a Picoh. 

RE

In RE, the children will be looking at the 5 pillars of Islam and why muslims pray 5 times a day.

PE

In PE, they will learn different relationships and use them within their dance as well as develop an understanding of stillness and demonstrate a clear beginning, middle and end.

Art

In art the children will be learning how to design and create their own sculpture based on the work of artist, Basil Watson.

French

In French, the children will be rlearning the different names of the planets and the different determiners each one can have.

Music

In Music, the children will be Introduced to chords and answering the question How does music teach us about our community?

RHE

In RHE, the children will be learning how to Identify the impact of everyday hygiene routines on health as well as explain how vaccinations can prevent disease.
