The primary role of the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and Speech-Language Pathologist Assistants (SLPa) for special education is to implement the special education assessment process in the area of Speech Therapy and provide direct and consult speech therapy. Assess the educational and program needs of students referred to special education. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.
Review assigned campus(es) caseload to ensure all students' records and timelines are compliant.
Determine caseload and develop a therapy schedule to service the required service minutes per student's IEP schedule of services.
Determine tentative Annual IEP Meeting calendar based on Annual Due Dates throughout the school year.
Determine a tentative testing calendar for students due for re-evaluation throughout the school year. Include any initial referrals carried over from the previous school year. Collaborating with other evaluation team members if additional testing is needed by other specialists other than SI.
Complete temporary/transfer meetings of newly enrolled students based on the New Student Online Enrollment (NSOE) Report.
Attend Professional Development.
Attend daily and weekly evaluation team, area, or charter-wide meetings.
Sign in and out upon entry and exit from the campus(es) as area staff.
Respond to campus concerns and questions regarding special education.
Ensure IEP meeting documents have been uploaded and cleared by the PEIMS department within 24 hours of the completion of the meeting, i.e. by the end of the next business day after the date of the meeting.
Update the referral Google doc of any referral or parent requests received from counselors.
SLP Attend and participate all IEP meetings scheduled as appropriate. Complete and upload IEP paperwork to PEIMS to be cleared within 24 hours.
Provide therapy minutes based on the student's schedule of services and document therapy notes and Medicaid billing as appropriate.
Verify NSOE, ensure all new students to ILTexas have been vetted with previous districts, and request special education records. If a student was receiving special education services at a previous district temporary/transfer meeting is completed and sent to PEIMS for coding.
Verify all annuals due during the week were completed and cleared by PEIMS, provided to case managers to send home, and filed in the student's folder.
Verify all annuals due the next week are scheduled and that the IEP meeting draft is complete.
Verify all FIEs are current, re-evaluations due the last week were completed, and dates updated.
Verify all the FIEs coming up in the next month have been scheduled for testing, and the reports are on track to be completed on or before the due date.
Ensure status weekly status of all required evaluations outstanding on referrals to ensure referrals are completed within the timeline.
Ensure all therapy notes have been documented and all Medicaid billing has been updated.
Ensure all new students to ILTexas have had a transfer meeting or a permanent placement IEP meeting if they had a temporary meeting to gather more information prior to a permanent placement meeting.
Verify all students listed on the special education eligible list are currently on campus. Update records for students no longer enrolled with ILTexas.
Verify PEIMS for the snapshot.
Verify PEIMS for all assigned campuses directly each grading period.
Ensure speech student progress reports have been filed in the student folders.
Verify the next grading period of scheduled IEP meetings has been sent to the campus(es) administration staff via email.

Provide a list of any referrals carrying over to next year and the status of the evaluation or initial IEP meeting.

Ensure IEPs are developed and documented based on federal, state, and charter guidelines.
Ensure related service needs are communicated to related service personnel and the Special Education Area Director.
Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local policy in the area of special education.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Maintain inventory of testing protocols and test kits.
Maintain special education-supplied office equipment.
Model the ILTexas’ mission and goals for the community.
Serve as support for campus administration.
Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with administration staff, teachers, support staff, parents, and community members.
Ensure the provision of meaningful parental participation.
Maintain the same job duties and responsibilities as the Special Education Speech Language Therapist. The following additional responsibilities will apply:
Reports directly to the Special Education Area Director regarding any campus concerns.
Attend weekly area meetings alongside the Special Education Area Director.
Model/mentor new Special Education Speech Language Therapists or Assistants.
Run Annual IEP and FIEs due date reports for area campuses weekly to ensure compliance.
Retrain or advise the Speech Language Pathologist Coordinator of the need for additional training, as necessary, for IEP/FIE prep, development, creation, or uploading responsibilities in and outside of the Special Education platform used by ILTexas.
Act as a resource regarding internal audits of IEP paperwork for compliance and SPP indicators.
Act as a resource for testing and interpretation of testing results as needed by other speech-language pathologists. Contact the Speech Language Pathologist Coordinator as needed for guidance.
Act as a general resource in referrals, IEP paperwork, FIE/REEDs, and compliance for the area staff through mentorship.
Attend Weekly Subject Matter Expert Lead Huddle and be prepared to share the following information for the assigned campuses.
