Kia ora e te Whānau,
Thank you for your co-operation and support as we organised and implemented the required protocols for the Red Setting of the Covid Protection Framework.
This week we have been focusing on settling the tamariki into classroom routines and forming relationships with their new classmates and teacher.
Across the school, our learning for Term 1 will be based around two petals of our Ilam Vision: I Belong and I Strive. We have some great tasks designed for tamariki to grow their skills and understanding of these competencies.
Ngā mihi nui,
Belinda Kennedy and the Ilam School Team

Learning Conferences via Zoom:
WEDNESDAY 23 FEBRUARY 2022 3.15pm – 6.00pm
THURSDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2022 3.15pm – 6:15pm & 6:45pm - 8.00pm
Our Start of the Year Learning Conferences are a great opportunity to connect with your child’s class teacher. During this meeting we would like to hear from you about your child’s strengths, interests and areas to develop. We will also be checking we have your correct details. Due to the changing Omicron situation, we have made the decision to hold our Learning Conferences via Zoom rather than face-to-face meetings.
Parents of children who need translation interviews have already received their booking time, therefore please DO NOT book another conference time.
Today we have sent home a hard copy of the Learning Conference Sharing Paper. This paper has some basic questions for you to answer, which you will share with your child’s classroom teacher during the online meeting, allowing them to develop a better understanding of your child and so cater for their individual needs.
We invite you to book a conference time online. Please follow the steps below. If you do not have access to the internet, please phone the school office. The staff will assist you.
To book your Learning Conference, go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz
Enter the school code yxwtm and press ‘GO’.
You will be guided through three steps. A few moments later you will get an email confirming your Learning Conference time. You can return to the site and change your conference time whenever you wish.
Bookings will open tomorrow at 10 am Friday 11th February and close at 9 am Friday 18th Febrauary.
Your child’s class teacher will then be in touch with you with a Zoom link for you to access once bookings have been finalised.
Work and Income:
The beginning of the year can be a challenging time for parents who are faced with many costs. Assistance is available from Work & Income for people on a low income as well as those on a benefit. This website links to a guide to identify what support might be available for you, including help with school costs and OSCAR subsidies. You can also call 0800-559-009 to apply.
Managing Covid cases in our School:
The Ilam School leadership team have been working hard to plan and put in place the protocols required should a case of COVID be identified at Ilam School. A brief overview of the process is as follows:
If we have an identified COVID case - what happens?
The Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Health will notify the school.
The School will support the family.
We will work with the MOE to identify close contacts.
Once we have confirmed close contacts, you will be notified with information on isolation.
The number of days isolating will reflect the phase that we are in.
Staff who are close contacts will also be required to isolate.
As we head into different phases of the outbreak the school will respond accordingly. Below is a general outline of how we will manage cases and learning: We are currently at Red Phase 1:
Preparing for Covid-19
You can also prepare for COVID-19, making sure you and your household have a plan and know what to do. This will mean your whānau and community can help each other if needed. Find out more here:
