Kia ora e te Whānau,
Thank you for your support on Monday, 4 April for our Teachers Only Day, while we worked with our Mathematics Learning Advisor. Working with Carol was insightful and inspiring. Teaching teams also looked closely at our Cultural Narrative and planned for great learning opportunities in Term 2. We look forward to sharing this learning with you.
This week our School Council with your support raised $307.60 for the RSA poppy collection. We are really proud to be able to donate this money to the Papanui RSA.
This term has been an interesting time for us all. Thank you for following our Red Protection Framework guidelines and attending events where you could. Our Zoom meetings at the start of the year were most helpful. Your support has been invaluable in creating a calm, safe place for our tamariki to learn.
I would really like to acknowledge all the work, effort and energy our wonderful Ilam Staff have provided in what has to have been one of the most challenging terms in a very long time. We are so very fortunate to have such a hard working, dedicated team. I have encouraged them to really rest and recharge over the holidays.
On that note, I wish you all a lovely holiday break. We look forward to seeing you on Monday, 2nd May.
Noho ora mai/Stay safe,
Belinda Kennedy and the Ilam School Team

Cross Country
We had our Cross Country today. Thank you to those who came along to support our tamariki. It was lovely to have whānau back on site. A big thank you to Linda Ewen and Kayla Gaut for their organisation of this event. A big shout out to our House Captains who encouraged and supported the runners.
Congratulations to all those who raced on Tuesday. It is a big effort.
Please find our top 3 results for each race below:
Congratulations:
A big congratulations to Catherine and Jeff Komen who announced the birth of their daughter Emme. She was born on Thursday, 31 March at 1.52pm, weighing 6lb 11oz. She is gorgeous!
Congratulations to Holly and Joe Sutton who are expecting their first child in August. Holly teaches in Room 5 in our Year 3-4 team. We are excited for them both and wish them well in their parenthood journey.
Thank you PTA:
This week our tamariki were treated to an ice block from the PTA (Parent Teacher Association). It was to celebrate a wonderful term full of learning, challenges and change. Our tamariki are amazing and we really wanted to reward them. Thank you PTA for the ice block. We loved them!
Look out in the upcoming Ilam Updates, as we will be introducing the PTA team and sharing ways you can support them and the school.
Second Hand Uniform Sale:
The PTA will be hosting a Second Hand Uniform Sale on Friday 6 May from 8.30am Our second hand uniform sale is a great way to get extra items for winter or a whole uniform should you need it. Items are of high quality and well priced. So make sure you check it out. Any profit made on sales is used to buy teaching resources across the school. We will be sharing a fundraising update in the coming term.
If you are able to help out on the day please contact our Admin team at admin@ilam.school.nz and someone from the PTA will be in touch with you. The PTA would appreciate your support with this event.
CPF COVID-19:
Yesterday the Government announced that the whole country will move to the Orange Setting of the Covid Protection Framework from 11.59pm Wednesday, 13 April.
Life at Orange in the CPF allows us to interact with each other more, something we are all looking forward to. Further information about how we will operate as a school at Orange will be sent in our Ilam Updates on Thursday, 28 April.
Lockdown Drill:
Yesterday we had a Lockdown Drill. We are required to have a Lockdown Drill each term, to ensure our operating systems are in place and to see if there are any changes required. It ran very smoothly.
Sport Coaches we need YOU!
In terms 2 and 3, our senior students participate in sporting activities each week. They participate in hockey, netball, rugby, soccer and table tennis. In order to run the teams effectively, we need some support. Are you available to take a lunchtime coaching session and then support the team at the game on a Friday afternoon? You would also need to umpire the game alongside the other teams' coach.
If you are interested or would like to more information please contact Linda Ewen at linda.ewen@ilam.school.nz
