Red blood cells or RBCs (black arrow), White blood cells or WBCs (blue arrow) and platelets (orange arrow) at 1000X in a Wright stained smear. Platelets or thrombocytes- as they are also known- are produced in our bone marrow (inside bones) and are responsible for forming clots and preventing bleeding.

Platelets in wound healing. Platelets (P, blue) gather at wound site (A) after getting signals from ligand (L, yellow). Their accumulation forms a cap to plug blood flow out of the wound.
