Science Outreach at IGIB
At IGIB, we share our excitement for science and our recent discoveries through various events spread over the whole academic year. We host day-long exhibitions, called Open Day, for groups of school and college students who visit our facilities to get to know the infrastructural facilities at IGIB and interact informally with scientists and research scholars. NGOs which work with children who may not be enrolled in regular schools have also been regularly attending the Open Day. Many members of the IGIB faculty work with individual schools and colleges to streamline science curricula, co-curricular activities and projects.
Jigyasa: Arousing scientific curiosity
This ongoing program for high school children (the ongoing school-level program) is supported by CSIR. The activities are designed to spark the child’s curiosity. School visits organized periodically provide a one-time engagement opportunity for the student to appreciate inter-disciplinary research activities happening at IGIB. Quiz competitions and workshops connect textbook concepts to the latest discoveries. This program currently caters to more than 2000 high school students from government schools, private schools, and Kendriya Vidyalayas in the Delhi/NCR region.
Ramanujan Hardy Lab
To be the Hardy to today’s Ramanujan
The idea is to attract and nurture off-beat thinkers and innovators amongst school students.
IGIB will host a total of ten such students in 2023 and 2024. Each student is invited to stay on our campus with an accompanying adult. The mentors and IGIB scientists will work together to nurture the ideas of these students and encourage them to explore their ideas through trial and error.
