Bridge to Practice
The purpose of this bridge to practice is for you to continue developing an understanding of the work that NSI teachers have been engaged in since 2018. You’ll do this by talking to a few teachers about their experiences with the Dallas ISD/IFL NSI.
To complete this bridge to practice, please do the following:
Please interview one middle school or one high school teacher (or both!) from an NSI school that you support. We’ve suggested a few teachers that have been with us for several years and can speak to the work that they’ve been doing:
Adamson: Brad Dominy or Israel Alfaro
Bedford: Denise Harris
Carter: Nikki Elebeke or Raeven Sharp
Garcia: Dylan Malmala
Kennedy-Curry: Shawanda Hunt
Kimball: Mariel Flores-Carter
Marsh: Emma Raleigh, Crystal Rexius, or Shania Pierre
North Dallas: Alexa Adams
Spence: Al Yancey or Savannah Prince
Wilmer-Hutchins: Celsa De Jesus
WT White: Britt Culver
Zan Holmes: Greg Parker or Saketrick Toney
Consider asking an open-ended question to get teachers to tell you their story, such as:
• What has your experience been working with the IFL?
• Describe a lesson where the IFL work has gone well.
• What challenges do you have working with the student-centered routines?
After speaking with a teacher or two, please use the following questions to reflect on what you’ve learned:
Using what you’ve learned about successes and challenges with the IFL work, how might you support teachers as they continue to adapt curricular materials?
What questions are you left with?
Please be prepared to share your thoughts at our next session.
Feel free to email us with any questions.
