What do you notice about how the teacher and students interact in each scenario?
Scenario A
Scenario B
Scenario C
Scenario D
Breakout Room:
Please work in your breakout room to share your thinking in response to the questions about the scenarios. Then add your thinking to a Google Slide in response to the following:
In which scenario or scenarios did students have the most opportunity to think and reason about the text? What happens in the description(s) that make you say that?
What happens in the other scenarios that prevents students from thinking and reasoning about the text?
Bridge to Practice
Our final NSI meeting will be used to reflect on this year’s instruction, including students’ experiences. The purpose of this bridge to practice is for you to deepen your understanding of the experiences that students are having in their ELAR classroom. You'll use this
information in our May meeting to inform some of your reflection. To be successful with this bridge to practice, please do the following:
Please use the Empathy Interview protocol linked below to interview 1 or 2 students. Please take notes on the conversations that you have. Here are a few tips for collecting your interviews:
If possible, record the interview. This will help to fill in information you may have missed.
Take notes to supplement the recorded interview. You may want to mark specific times you want to listen to on the recording or big ideas that you don’t want to forget.
Summarize the interview in your own words as soon as possible after the interview. This will help document your thinking about what was said and what you observed during the interview.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
