Agenda

Pre-Work

The purpose of your pre-work is to refresh your understanding of the work of our network for school improvement or to introduce you to our network if you are a new teacher.

For our meeting on September 8th, please do the following:

  1. Watch the video on Networks for School Improvement.

  2. Read the Bright Spots document and respond to the task questions.

We'll discuss your pre-work during our online meeting. See you all soon!

What is a Network for School Improvement (NSI)?

Please watch the linked video. This video provides information about what a network for school improvement (NSI) is.

Bright Spots

Please take some time to read through the Using Continuous Improvement Methods to Improve Instruction in Dallas document.

Task

Once you have completed watching the NSI video and have read the Bright Spots document, please compose a quick write in response to the following:

  • What did you learn about networks for school improvement?

  • What do you notice about what teachers have to say about our network project?

  • What questions are you left with about the project and about NSIs?

How is our Network Organized?

3. COP DISD + IFL NSI Vision of Collaborative Work_PRINT.pdf

Resource: Crosswalk

While we will not be working with this document during our meeting - it's a great resource for understanding our theory of improvement that was built during the first years of our network. It also provides information on how each role group in Dallas ISD and how the IFL works within our framework of improvement.

Aligning with Other Programs

Please take a look at the documents linked to the right. You don't have to look at all of the documents today, but select the document that seems most relevant to the work happening in your school. For example, if you are an IB school, you might focus your time on the IB document. If you have an AVID focus, you might start your work there.

Once your team has decided which document to focus on, please work together to review the document and then respond to the following:

  • What do you notice about how IFL supports other programs in the district?

  • What question do you have?

Please add your thinking to our shared Jam Board.

Reflecting on Curriculum

Task: Studying Your Instruction

Review the Studying Your Instruction Task Sheet in with your school team. As you review the task sheet, consider the following:

  • Is this a task you’d rather complete individually, across grade levels, or as a school team?

  • Is there anything you’d like to reflect on that isn’t included in the task sheet?

Bridge to Practice

The purpose of this bridge to practice is for you to use the "Studying Your Instruction" task sheet to reflect on a lesson.

To complete this bridge to practice, do the following:

  • Begin by selecting a lesson that you'd like to use for reflection. This should be a text-based lesson.

  • Once you've engaged students in the lesson, use the questions on the task sheet to reflect on your role during the lesson and the role that students played.

  • Finally, please be prepared to share your reflection during our meeting in October.

Our next meeting will be in person on October 13th. We will be meeting at Garcia Middle School (700 E 8th St, Dallas, TX 75203) in the library.

Please let us know if you have any questions!
