Mobility 04

Nový Jičín, Czech Republic. Zero Waste Lifestyle

Postponed.

Due to Covid19, this mobility took place in end of March, 2022

SUNDAY 27.03.2022

Prague- the capital city of the Czech republic-was the first planned day of our mobility. We were surprised and amazed by beautiful buildings and sights. Tour guide who told us a lot about history and famous people led us over the Charles Bridge, the Old Town City and other places toward the Prague Castle. There we visited St.Vitus Cathedral and enjoyed views all over Prague. In the evening we left and were happy to go to Novy Jicin and met our friends and host families.

MONDAY 28.03.2022

On Monday we got to know each other by ice breaking activities in the morning. Then we were learning how Zero waste is happening in other countries. We also learned about the third and fifth R’s rule and at the end of the day we started to work with the New Creature project! We also got to meet the headmasters of the Czech Republic's school and they welcomed us to the school!

What a great start to the week!

TUESDAY - 29.03.2022

Today, on the 29th of March, our day started with a guided tour around the school. We were divided into 3 groups: the students were guided by Vlad and Mark while the teachers saw the school with the czech teachers.

All the school facilities were showed and well explained, at least our group got to see and understand some unique things about it, like the fact that they have specific classes and a lot of different opportunities, as you can see in these pictures: more practical subjects like learning how to build things, how to milk the cows and even how to drive a tractor. Some of us actually got the chance to try it, as you can see in the videos. - they are annexed to the email.

We also saw some of the animals like chinese chickens and a lot of different variety of parrots.

Besides all of this, we had the opportunity to see in action the classes in the laboratories, the p.e. and fitness rooms and even on the computers.

After all of this wonderful visit, we all continued our work with the new creature, which we will present on friday. Everyone worked really hard, and did a great job while getting closer to their group partners.

Since we were done with our morning activities, the school gave us the opportunity to lunch, we had tasty options, as you can see. In order to accomplish the zero waste goal, everyone was really careful with the leftovers, which, later on, will be reused. At 11h30 we started our trip to the local landfill where everyone was weighed at the same time, like the trucks are, all together we weighed 2803kg.

Two last year students guided two groups around while explaining what consisted and how it works there. We even saw that it worked perfectly fine since it had nature living around it and making their nests close to it, more specifically the seagulls. It was a very enriching experience, as we now know a lot more about composting and this specific landfill.

Afterwards, we got to do a trip to the beautiful local city, Štramberk. Here, we got to understand the history of the city and its sustainable wooden houses, and later on to climb all the 166 steps of Štramberká Trúba Tower to admire the beautiful view of the surroundings. Then we had the chance to explore by ourselves the town to later on meet each other on the main square.

Finally, today, besides working and learning together we got closer to each other and we expanded our knowledge not just about the way this country lives, but also about its culture and history.

WEDNESDAY 30.03.2022

We took a bus to an Eco center where we learned about sheep and wool, and how you could make wool products.

We tried to make our own yarn and kind of a soap sponge. The soap had to be covered with wool, and we could choose different colors. Then the soap was put in a nylon sock and dipped in water and liquid soap. Gently the soap was massaged into the wool. It took a long time, maybe 5-10 minutes. The result was a healthier soap sponge.

We also learned about zero waste; Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and rot. How we could use it in our everyday life and why.

We found insects that make good soil. We also sorted trash in the right trashcans.

THURSDAY, 31st March - DAY TRIP TO PUSTEVNY

After a short bus trip, we reached the top of the Pustevny where our walking trip started. It was a ice cold morning, which surprised us after a four days of Mediterranean warm and sunny weather.

The fog surrounded us drifting along the mountain hills. That was a shock for all of us although nothing was going to spoil our trip.

The walking trip started at the restaurant, where we later would have lunch. The Spaniards and the Portuguese were really excited because they were looking forward to stepping on real snow. We wouldn't have to wait for long.

After a brief explanation on the history and meaning of the monument, we followed our path amidst the thick fog and cold wind.

Our final stop was the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius on Radhošť, built on the summit of the mountain Radhošť in order to symbolize the evangelization of Slavic people. Despite the bad weather conditions, we were able to rest a little bit and recover strength for our way back.

n the cold wind and initial snowflakes, we managed to get to the restaurant “Koliba Valaška” where we tasted some delicious Czech specialties.

Despite the harsh conditions, it was a great day and allowed us to experience how a real Czech winter can be. It also left us with the feeling that we have to come back for more.
