History

In 1967 high school students in Maplewood, New Jersey, created a mix of different sports such as football, soccer, and basketball, and it was played with a frisbee. A student, David Leiwant, called it Ultimate, as the ultimate sports experience, hence its name. Students from nearby schools would throw the tin plates while yelling "Frisbie" to alert others so no one was seriously hurt.

After the release of tin cake plates became popular, Walter Frederick Morrison, in 1948 decided to design a plastic frisbee that would better resist blows and that was specifically used for playing.

The first "official" game of Frisbee was played at CHS between Council students, and members of the newspaper. They used a Wham-O record. A team was formed at school and they played in a parking lot. The only lines that existed were the goal lines, usually indicated or marked by telephone poles or mountains of players' coats.
