Communities
Video Guided Tour Available (on right; For Mobile, Scroll down)
Communities in IEEE Collabratec are large forums for sharing and discussing the latest topics related to trending technical subject matter, geographical regions or IEEE Societies/IEEE-aligned entities.
Communities are created by IEEE Collabratec staff, who are considered the owners. IEEE Staff, volunteers and other users can be assigned as Co-owners which will give them a subset of functionality of the owner, such as editing the name, description and logo. Moderators who are overseeing the content can also be assigned. Assignments are implemented from the Participants list using the "Manage" button .
The major differences between Communities and Workspaces:
Communities can have an unlimited set of participants. Workspaces are limited to 300 participants for members (10 for non-members).
Communities can be open to all or restricted to entry of specific users by using eligibility codes related to membership or region (geo codes).
Workspaces include a Shared File Editing function, bulk folder upload function (for moving folders from online storage into Collabratec storage in files section) and a project management tool called project tracker.
The posting-comment-reply structure is essentially the same.
Communities can be FAVORITE-d from the "JOINED" list, the your Dashboard Communities list or from the specific Community by finding and selecting the star (white star on gray background) which will then cause background to be blue. The Favorites icon can be easily toggled.
Some of the more popular or trending Communities are (links below will redirect to Collabratec Community):
- 5G
- Women in Leadership, and more!
The Communities list page has two filters:
1- "I have joined" and 2-"I can join" which are self-explanatory.
From the "I can join" list, next to each Community name will be one of three options:
1. Join Community - this means the Community is open for you to join
2. Learn More - this Community is closed either because it is invitation-only or you do not match the eligibility requirements; the learn more button will give you some basic information about the Community
3. Send Join request - you must be approved to join this Community
See Workspace Info pages, as well as the two videos on right for more info about Communities.
