Where are we?

Monza is a city in Lombardy, capital of the Monza and Brianza province.

It is located about 15 km in the north-east from the metropolitan city of Milan, that is capital of the region.

The city is around 162 m of altitude from the sea level, and it is crossed from north to south by the river Lambro.

Our school, in paticular, is in the Monza center, at 4 San Martino street.

The city of Monza is characterised by a continental climate that is tipical of Pianura Padana, with cold and humid winters, and hot and sultry summers. The precipitations are quite abundant and well distributed over the year, around 1045 millimetres per year.

The population of Monza is over 120 000 inhabitants with a density of 3629/km2, this classificate it as the second city of the metropolitan area of Milan, and the third city in Lombardy, after Milan and Brescia.

The original urban nucleus of the city of Monza was originally located around the Duomo area, built in the 6th century, and the Arengario, built in the second half of the 13th century. Subsequently, other residential and industrial districts developed.

The rich history and remarkable artistic and cultural heritage make Monza famous. One of the city's most important monuments is the Villa Reale, built between 1777 and 1780, which is a symbol of the prestige and magnificence of the Habsburg court.

The gardens of the Villa Reale are part of the Monza Park, one of Europe's largest historical parks, with a surface area of approximately 685 hectares. Monza Park is also very famous because it is home to Italy's most important national racetrack, active since 1922. The circuit hosts the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.

Dove sono stati raccolti i dati?

Historical data were taken from the Milano Brera station, so called because it is installed on the roof of the Brera Astronomical Observatory in the historic centre of Milan, which has been active since 1763; only 14 km from our school

Direct measurements of maximum and minimum temperature and rainfall were taken in the courtyard of the Confalonieri middle school in Monza.
