We are the Eco-Council, croeso to our page!
The eco-council is made up of one child from every class from Year 1 to Year 6. We meet up regularly to discuss eco and environmental issues and decide on the actions we can take as a school and as a community. We want to empower and inspire all young people to make positive environmental changes.
Here you will find what we have been up to and any actions or campaigns we are completing.
Search #SAPSEco on Twitter for more St. Andrew's news and updates.
Here is the St. Andrew's Eco-Code.
This sums up how we feel at St. Andrew's - if we all work together and try our best, even if it's just a small action to help the planet, we can make a big difference!
Join in with Great Big Green Week 7th-15th June. What would you swap?
As always, we are taking part in Plantlife's #NoMowMay and #LetItBloomJune to encourage and support wildlife. Take a look at our posters. To find out more about why this is important, have a look here: https://www.plantlife.org.uk/let-it-bloom-june-no-mow-may-is-over-whats-next/
Last year the Eco-council installed an air quality monitoring tube in Forest School. We send the tube to a laboratory once a month to investigate levels of nitrogen dioxide, once we have 12 results to add up and average we can then compare that with the Newport City Council nitrogen dioxide standard (40ug/m3 )
We only have 7 months of results from last year but they show some interesting trends.
In November we joined the #RememberHedgehogs campaign to remind people to check under bonfires for hidden hedgehogs. Bonfire piles look like 5-star hotels to hedgehogs looking for a safe and cosy winter nest to hibernate in – so it’s vital to Stop! Move! Check! and think of wildlife!

It's now #LetItBloomJune - even letting just a patch of your lawn or an area in your garden go wild will help all sorts of wildlife this summer! 🌼🦋
It's #NoMowMay - will you be leaving your lawn to grow wild this May?
Here is some of the Eco-Council's artwork to encourage you!
Here is our assembly about the Eco-Council and the Eco-Schools process. It includes some of the actions from our action plan such as recycling as much as we can, a Rags2Riches clothes collection, our whole school Ecosia search competition, increasing biodiversity by planting and letting some areas grow wild, a harvest collection, saving water, raising awareness of litter and getting the whole school involved! Enjoy!
