We are Criw Cymraeg! Croeso to our page. Our job is to promote Welsh around the school.
In July 2022, we were very proud to achieve the Cymraeg Campus bronze award. Cymraeg Campus is a Language Charter that is used to promote the use of the Welsh language throughout school, across the curriculum and in all areas of school life. Criw Cymraeg played a crucial part in achieving the award and the assessor was blown away with the presentation they delivered and their enthusiasm. Da iawn pawb! We are now working towards the Cymraeg Campus Arian (silver) award.
We are now working hard to achieve the Cymraeg Campus Arian award. There are 10 targets and lots of sub targets to achieve. The main aims of the award continue to be to promote a positive Welsh ethos and to increase the use of Welsh in schools.
Here are all the targets for the Cymraeg Campus award. Scroll through to see all the targets and sub targets.
We celebrated 'Diwrnod Shwmae' again this year on October 15th.
This helps us to achieve target 7 which is all about enrichment activities.
We had such a fun day and many of us went on a 'Shwmae Hunt' around the school. Take a look at all the lovely things we did to celebrate! We also held a special Shwmae Day themed 'Tea and Talk' to celebrate and parents were invited to speak Welsh.
Gwaith da!
We made our own podcast on Radio Reach to celebrate Dydd Miwsig Cymru. As part of the show there was a whole class vote for everyone's favourite Welsh song. Click the link below to listen to our show.
To help raise the confidence of the learners in our school, we introduced a new assessment system, focussing on 8 key questions. Children are awarded points depending on how they answer the questions e.g. 1 point for a 1 word answer, 2 points for the correct use of language pattern, 3 points if they have extended. We made videos to help children with their responses.
Here are some of our videos to help support children with the new assessment questions ...
To promote the use of Welsh outside the classroom, we made posters to display in the canteen to encourage children to speak Welsh.
This helps us to achieve target 4 - using Welsh outside of the classroom.
We have introduced a mascot to every year group to help encourage the use of Welsh at home. This helps us to achieve target 2 - Welsh as a living language. We introduced Dwynwen to our year groups.
Here are some of the language patterns that help us write about our weekends with Dwynwen. Recently, Dwynwen went on a Royal Air Force plane! Bobol bach Dwynwen!
As part of target 5 - Welsh in assemblies, we lead a Welsh assembly on a fortnighly basis. Welsh songs are sung, a Welsh game is played and Siaradwr yr Wythnos certificates are awarded. Here is an example of one of our assemblies .....
