Pupils with a hearing impairment are monitored every half term by the local authority’s HI team. Regular training is provided to ensure staff deliver the effective strategies when teaching pupils with a hearing impairment.
Once a fortnight pupils meet in the Cochlear Hearing Aid Technology (CHAT) club to discuss any concerns that they may have and to help promote strategies around the school that will help them in lessons by giving guidance to their teachers and peers.
Pupils with a visual impairment are also monitored very closely by the VI team. Staff have had training in supporting pupils with a visual impairment. Arrangements are made for those pupils who need work enlarged and specialised equipment is provided to offer additional support.
Habilitation and mobility specialists support our visually impaired pupils by offering them opportunities to go out into the community to help them navigate around the local area, this can include visits to local shops or traveling on a bus to help promote their independence when out in their local community.
At Cynffig, our hearing impaired pupils have the opportunity to participate in the Welsh Deaf Rugby Union taster day each year. Pupils are encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life.
