Progression Step 1
Progression Step 1 - I can distinguish between someone I know and someone I have never met.
Play a game with the learners where they have to sort pictures of people into two groups which are people they know (e.g. pictures of friends , school staff etc.) and people they don't know (e.g. pictures of people out of magazines etc.). When sorting the pictures of people they know learners could be asked to say one thing they know about that person.
Progression Step 1 - I can recognise data online with adult support, e.g find images of myself and others on the school website/school social media page.
Explain to the child that they are going to be " Data detective " and learn how to find information (data) online with your help. Visit a child-friendly website. Show them how to move around the website and find different types of information (data), such as photos, videos and text. Ask them to point out things they find interesting and explain what they see. Ask the child to identify different types of data they see for example, "Can you find a picture of an animal?" or "Can you find a number on this page?" Discuss the importance of asking an adult for help when searching for information online. State some basic ideas to stay safe online e.g. not sharing personal information and always ask an adult before clicking on links or downloading anything etc.

Read a storybook about online safety ( e.g. The Adventures of Smartie the Penguin , Hani and the Magic window, Digi duck , 'Chicken Clicking' etc.) and then discuss the content of the story. Then together, create a list of simple online safety rules for the class.
