Every term, each class has an opportunity to engage in a range of science learning either linked to their lines of inquiry, or as standalone lessons. Below is an outline as to what each year group is focusing on this term.
EYFS -
A focus on understanding of the world through the use of different materials with different and similar properties, being able to say what they can see and feel and being able to talk about the differences between different materials as they use them.
Year 1 -
A focus on animals including humans, looking at classifying different animals according to what they look like. As well as classifying animals, children are going to be exploring how animals are suitable for the environment they live in.
Year 2 -
Year 2 is focusing on different materials and exploring the differences and similarities between them. They are making links between culture and science by having opportunities to explain what material would be best to use when creating clothes from around the world.
Year 3 -
Year 3 has a focus on light and how it is created. As well as looking at light, they are looking at how shadows are formed and what the connection between light and shadow is. They are also linking light to religion and will be exploring the culture through an RE lens.
Year 4 -
Year 4 are looking at states of matter this term. They are going to be exploring the different states of matter and will be able to describe the properties of liquids, solids and gases. As well as this, the children will look at temperature and how this can affect the three states of matter.
Year 5 -
This term in year 5 there is a focus on living things and their habitats. The children will be looking at different life cycles of animals and will be given the opportunity to explore the similarities and differences between different animals.
Year 6 -
Year 6 will be focusing on light. They will be observing and experimenting on how light travels and make predictions when completing investigations. The children will be able to explain how light travels in straight lines and go into more detail about shadows and how they can be formed in different ways.
Please take the opportunity to speak to your children about the wonderful Science learning they will be completing.
