Our first theme of the fortnight this term was centred around Anti-Bullying Week, with its focus being around reaching out to others. In assemblies led by myself and Mr Etheridge, the whole school community explored what different forms of bullying there are and what we can do to protect ourselves and others against it. The children learnt the saying ‘stop, walk, tell’ to help them remember what to do in a situation where they feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
In Year 1, the children have been exploring what a cause is and examining what causes they hold dear. They looked at the logos of various charities and used them as inspiration for designing their own for their own selected causes; these ranged from improving literacy in schools, to saving the bats! Berners-Lee class have also been reading Julian is a Mermaid by Jessica Love, which is about combating harmful gender stereotypes and celebrating our identities. In Year 5, the children have been writing letters around combatting homelessness as part of their lines of inquiry into beliefs and values; Year 2 similarly has produced work around beliefs and values with an RE focus. EYFS have been learning about emotional regulation and coming up with methods to help them understand their feelings.
