Numbots
Following the introduction of Numbots to Reception and Year 1, we have seen fantastic engagement and progress from the children to develop their subsidising and number fact knowledge. The children are excited to earn points to build and improve their robot. Each week we have awarded certificates for those children to have achieved the most correct answers. There is great merit in repeating previous levels to maintain their fact knowledge and develop speed.
Times Table Rockstars
We are excited to be participating in the Leigh Academies Trust Top of the Rocks tournament. This will run from Thursday 17th November to Thursday 8th December between 8:30am and 3pm. The class with the most correct answers per person at the end will win. Once the competition has started, pupils simply answer as many questions correctly as they can before the competition ends, in any game mode. Good luck to Years 2-6 who will be participating in this!
Da Vinci
Reception have been exploring numbers to 5. They are super subitisers which means they can recognise different arrangements of numbers 1-5 without the need for counting. The children have worked on exploring number compositions and recording their findings.
Berners-Lee
Year 1 have worked on addition and subtraction using the resources, the whole-part-part model and number lines. They have worked hard on recording their own work in books.
Cousteau Class
Year 2 have been working on addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers. They began with the use of manipulatives such as diennes and counting beads before written methods. They have developed their addition and subtraction of 10 through mental methods.
Anderson Class
Year 3 have focused on addition and subtraction crossing 10s and 100s. They have used a range of models such as whole-part-part and bar model to represent their workings as well as moving onto column addition and subtraction. Children have also worked on developing their reasoning skills when applying their learning through more complex real life questions.
Adams Class
Year 4 returned to school to work on the measurement topic of area. They measured, made and compared areas of different shapes. They have begun to work on their multiplication and division learning, focusing on the 3, 6 and 9 times tables.
Thunberg Class
Year 5 have returned to school to focus on the topic of fractions. They have worked on finding equivalent fractions and converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. Children have been comparing and ordering fractions greater and less than 1.
Attenborough Class
Year 6 are working on fractions this term. They have worked on adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. They have also developed their reasoning and problem solving skills involving fractions.
