Reading
Across the school children are given the opportunity to share and enjoy a range of high quality texts. This may be as part of reading sessions, embedded within our wider Inquiry sessions, during KS1 reading assemblies or as part of the daily free reading sessions during the day. The children will be active listeners when listening to the teacher or adult in their class but as independent readers when they choose a book for their pleasure.
This year we are focusing on Reading for Pleasure across the school. Reading is a vital tool to unlock a child’s language development, allows them to access the wider curriculum, it's great for relaxing and our mental health and allows them to develop their creativity. Good readers are good writers.
Supporting at home
Listening to your child read at home and supporting them by talking about books, reading to them and asking questions is a great way that you can help your child at home. If you need more information on how to help your child, do ask your child’s class teacher. I’ve included some reading prompts that you may also find useful.
In this bulletin, I wanted to share with you a few of the texts that children across the school are reading to showcase the range of texts that the children are exposed to.

Frankie’s Magic Football - “I chose this book for our whole class reading for pleasure text because it’s about football and a world cup and the world cup starts this weekend. I like it because its children playing football and the football is magic.” George G
Romans on the Rampage - “We’ve started reading this as part of our Reading Rainbow sessions. From this book so far we have learnt that the Romans speak Latin and that they love chariot racing. We’ve made predictions and we’ve thought about the language being used by the author in this book.” Eloise.

Sponsored Read
Last week we received our books bought as a result of the huge support we had for our sponsored read which happened in term 1. With the help from children across the school, books have been picked and bought which supports each class’s learning across the year and the children helped to select books which will help develop our nonfiction area of our Learning Lounge. Once again, a huge thank you for your support. The amount we raised was phenomenal!
George R, Hector C, Isaac H, Rosie F and Niki G all helped to take delivery of the books last week.
