Parent Resources

NY Project Hope is a Crisis Counseling Program that provides support, resources, and education to assist individuals and communities working to cope with COVID-19. It is a strengths-based program offering support that promotes resilience, empowerment, and recovery.Trained crisis counselors answer the Emotional Support Helpline from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday. They understand the emotions that arise from being unsettled and fatigued by COVID-19. The crisis counselors are supportive, careful listeners who are knowledgeable about accessible local resources. They also help by offering coping strategies and self-care guidance. New York City residents can call 212-689-9500 ext. 314 Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm and be assured the call is confidential, anonymous, and free. New York City residents can also email our trained Crisis Counselors at Projecthope@partnershipwithchildren.org.
  • Family Resource Centers offer free parent-to-parent support, advocacy, and mental health resources.

Grief Resources:


Adult Bereavement Group :

  • Danielle Jonas, LCSW, COPE NYC/Cope With School NYC therapist, will be hosting an open online bereavement group for adults who have experienced the death of a family member due to COVID-19. The group will have open enrollment and will cap out at 12 members each week. The group will meet on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:45pm. Group sessions will be focused on processing the acute grief experience and the challenges related to bereavement in a time of social distancing. Drop in rate will be $30 per session and members will be welcomed on a first come first serve basis.   • $500 grants for restaurant workers who have lost wages

  • It takes a Village Emergency Fund

  • A Better Balance- A free helpline (call or email) that offers answers to questions about the law for workers facing issues at work related to sick, family, or medical leave.

  • One Fair Wage- Cash assistance to restaurant workers, care service drivers, deliver workers, personal service workers.

  • National Domestic Workers Alliance Coronavirus Care Fund - $400 in emergency assistance for home care workers, nannies, and house cleaners who have participated in activities of the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA), NDWA chapters, affiliate organizations, circles and current Alia users.

  • Freelancers Relief Fund- Financial assistance of up to $1,000 per freelance household to cover lost income and essential expenses not covered by government relief programs.

  • Hot Bread Kitchen- Hot Bread Kitchen supports hospitality and food service workers affected by COVID-19. They help understanding what benefits you might qualify for, how to apply, and where to access the resources you might need, like food and emotional support. We’ve connected with 100+ food service workers who have been laid off since this crisis started.

  • GoGrad - Scholarships & Financial Aid for LGBTQ Students: A variety of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) scholarships in popular career fields such as the arts, physical or social sciences, advocacy and education, tips and resources for funding your master’s degree and a scholarship application checklist.

Legal Resources

  • Many New Yorkers are facing untenable bill collection and difficulty navigating unemployment insurance, Medicaid, SNAP and other programs. Two free hotlines are available to help: Legal Services NYC assists vulnerable New Yorkers with housing law, employment law, bill disputes, government benefits, family law, domestic violence and much more. Call 917-661-4500, Monday through Friday, 10a-4p.

  • The Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation is offering free consultations on unemployment insurance in priority zip codes (currently 10031, 10032, 10033, 10034, 10040, 10452 and 10452). Call 929-512-4476 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9a-12p.

  • Urban Justice Center: Provides client-centered legal and social services to NYC’s most vulnerable residents

  • Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP): SRLP provides free legal services for low income people and people of color who are trans, intersex or gender non-conforming. This collective organization also works on issues related to housing, employment, foster care, welfare, benefits, immigration, school and the criminal justice system.

  • Anti-Violence Project (AVP): AVP provides free, holistic legal services to LGBTQ and HIV-affected survivors in all five boroughs of New York City, as well as a monthly immigration legal clinic at The Center.

  • Trinity Place Shelter: Transitional housing program for LGBTQ youth ages 18-24 in New York City.

  • Covenant House: Provides emergency shelter, crisis care, counseling and clothing.

  • Safe Horizon Streetwork Project: Provides LGBT-affirming services for runaway and homeless youth, including emergency housing, food, clothing, showers, medical care, needle exchange and an HIV support group.

  • Sylvia's Place at Metropolitan Community Church: Provides social services for the homeless and the hungry, including people living with HIV/AIDS, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) youth.

  • Ali Forney Center: Offers emergency and transitional housing, drop-in services, meals, support groups, counseling and medical services for LGBTQ homeless youth.

  • Safe Homes Project: A community-based, domestic violence advocacy and service program which provides a hotline, counseling, shelter, safety-planning and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence.
