All City
All City is a FREE, after-school, VIRTUAL Moth storytelling program for 10th-12th graders in all boroughs and schools of New York City and we are now accepting applications for the Fall 2021 Moth All City High School StorySLAM teams.
Applications are due Sunday, October 3rd at 11:59pm ET. You can find the application here and more information here on our site. You can also email me or allcity@themoth.org with any questions!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
All City students virtually meet in Zoom once a week for 7 weeks after school. They learn the craft of storytelling, practice their own Moth stories, and share them with friends, family, and fans at a small performance. It's a chance to meet students from all over NYC, learn valuable speaking and creative skills, and be a part of the magic that is The Moth! Students don’t need to be performers or writers— everyone has stories to tell, and there’s no one way to tell a Moth story.
The Fall 2021 virtual workshops will be on the following dates, in Zoom:
We are offering up to four different sets of dates and times. Students will tell us all of which work for them in the application and they will be assigned one schedule, if accepted.
SCHEDULES:
Tuesdays, October 12th - November 23rd, 4:00pm - 5:30pm EST
Wednesdays, October 13th - November 24th, 4:00pm - 5:30pm EST
Saturdays, October 9th - November 20th, 12:00pm - 1:30pm EST
Saturdays, October 9th - November 20th, 1:30pm - 3:00pm EST
Every All City storyteller needs a faculty advisor at their school to check in with us about their progress. Faculty advisors don’t need to come to workshops— they’re simply an on-the-ground contact for our students during the week. It is a minimal time commitment for teachers, but a great way to be involved with The Moth community.

Career Essentials
Students in the Career Essentials program attend one orientation and thirteen weekly two-hour workshops, each held virtually over Zoom. Participants in the program learn how to professionally interview, present information to a group, behave in a professional environment, manage their time, and create an effective resume. Each student also participates in two virtual career exploration field trips that give them a chance to learn about different industries and network with professionals who are willing to share career advice and insights from their own lives. Career Essentials affords students an opportunity to learn and form relationships with other students from all five boroughs, and to connect with peers during this isolated time. Students will receive a small stipend upon successfully completing the program.
Accepted students will attend the program from 4:30 to 6:30 pm one day per week this fall from late October through late January. The program is open to all high school students in New York City, but we consider it especially appropriate for underclassmen to prepare them for future internship opportunities. Interested students must have a working laptop and camera access, as well as stable internet connection.
Applications for Career Essentials are due October 4th. Interested students can apply online at this link.

Dear Girl Be Heard Community,
In honor of Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana, also known as Hispanic Heritage Month, join us in recognizing the achievements and contributions of Latine champions, including our participants and staff who identify as Hispanic/Latine, and represent a diversity of voices and communities.
These powerful individuals continue to inspire us and pave the way for future generations. Check out our social media where we spotlight these powerful advocates and artivists.
In other news, we are excited for the launch of GBH's 2022/23 programming in 13 sites across NYC. Our offerings this year include our filmmaking program, Girls Make Movies, After-School Workshop, and Weekend Workshop art residencies. We are also welcoming girls, young women, and non-binary youth ages 15 - 21 to audition for our pre-professional Artistic Company. More on that below and on our socials.
Wishing you a warm rest of the week filled with ease and community.
The Girl Be Heard Team
The Youth Company is a free, after-school program for students interested in developing their acting and dramatic writing skills. Within a creative, challenging, and supportive environment, teenagers from five boroughs participate in weekly workshops (Labs) led by professional theater artists. No prior experience is necessary. It is the desire to have one’s voice be heard and to speak one’s authentic truth, that will be the key to connecting with the program.
MCC will be hosting a two-day IN-PERSON audition on October 20th and 21st from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. Attendance on both days is necessary for consideration as the auditions are for both the Performance Lab and the Playwriting Lab programs.
In Performance Lab, Youth Company actors develop their performance skills through improvisation, movement, and ensemble building. Original student-written monologues and scenes are performed by the ensemble in the annual spring production UNCENSORED directed by Jennifer Shirley and Kevin Carillo.
Playwriting Lab members develop original scripts. Under the tutelage of the playwriting director and assistant director, young writers learn about the process of creating strong characters and composing dialogue, as well as establishing setting, and conflict.
