Life in our Sixth Form is about more than just achieving qualifications – it’s about preparing for adulthood with confidence, purpose, and a sense of responsibility. Our students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and personal development, building the independence and maturity they will need beyond 18.
Through an extensive programme of co-curricular and enrichment activities, students explore their interests, discover new passions, and contribute meaningfully to the school community. From the Turing Speaker Series, where leading professionals share insights from cutting-edge industries, to EPQ research, Duke of Edinburgh, STEM and Eco Clubs, and student-led enterprises, every opportunity helps students grow as thinkers, leaders and citizens.
Our co-curricular timetable reflects the vibrancy of Sixth Form life: Leadership Forums, Mini Law Society, Politics and Culture Clubs, Gym and Sports opportunities, and Reading Buddy mentoring all foster teamwork, creativity and initiative.
Everything we do is underpinned by our core values – Respect, Responsibility and Ready – guiding our students to become well-rounded young adults who are ready to take their next steps with confidence, curiosity and integrity.
Students collate their experiences and reflect on them using their Record of Progress log so staff, students and parents can see their skills development and contributions across the year and reflect on the successes and next steps.
Systematically supporting students in this way also provides students with a record of their development when they come to draft their Post 18 applications to university, apprenticeships or work.
As part of our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Readiness we believe that celebrating hard work and success is key to showing students the value of their commitment.
We work with the student leadership and through student voice to run social events for students throughout the year such as bowling, film night, crazy golf and quiz nights to bring the sixth form community together and continue to foster those soft skills such as team work, collaboration and communication.
Sixth Formers are very much part of our whole school community and celebrated equally too!
Every Friday teachers nominate students who have demonstrated our core values for a 'hot chocolate nomination' where one student from sixth form each week wins a hot chocolate that morning with the headteacher to celebrate their successes. Every student who is nominated receives a letter home as well with the reason for their nomination, we know it means a lot to students to be recognised for their hard work and to share this with families too!
Module 1 Week 7 Winner: Katie
Katie is an absolute ambassador of our school values and incredibly principled in her commitment to both her own progress and the wider school community. From excellent work ethic in her studies and academic curiosity to micro teaching year 11 students and touring prospective students - Katie approaches all aspects of school life with positivity and pride.
Within our advisory, PSHRE and Careers curriculum we ensure students have opportunities to build knowledge, skills and confidence for the workplace. This includes workshops at employers sites as well as organisations visiting us!
Students had a fantastic workshop on being a barista learning both the technical skills of making a good coffee as well as the softer skills required for the workplace.
Students also all complete a minimum of one week of work experience in the summer term of Year 12.
Student voice has worked with the sixth form team each year to plan what activities students would like to make use of for student led clubs. The most recent addition has been the gym club with students enjoying the use of the gym at lunch time to coach each other and develop technique.
Around their timetabled lessons, some students opt to utilise the specialist rooms and machinery in Creative Arts and Technology such as the dark room and photoshop in photography and sewing machines and A Level specific machinery for woodwork in Technology.
We also have a range of sports facilities available such as 3G pitches, tennis courts and gymnasium.
