Parent Volunteers,
If you’re interested in volunteering for the cafeteria, please contact the front desk at (913) 888-3250. All volunteers must be Virtus trained.
Due to Federal Nutritional Policies: Please do not send/bring caffeinated drinks with sack lunches.
Parents (family members) are allowed to bring outside lunches to their child/children. If you choose to bring outside lunches to your child/children, please bring healthy lunches without caffeine. Each student has the option of bringing lunch from home with the option of purchasing milk or purchasing a hot, nutritious lunch from the cafeteria. Kindergarten, first, and second graders are only allowed (1) milk purchase or (1) milk with hot lunch. Federal guidelines indicate that buying or trading of food from one child to another is prohibited. Free or reduced lunches will be available to those students who meet the federal guidelines.
-Hot lunch includes 3-5 food group items; milk is included as one food group item.
How do I pay?
Each family has a family account. Money can be deposited through your Sycamore or FACTS account, or by sending a check in an envelope addressed to the cafeteria with the students’ names marked on the front of the envelope. As each student proceeds through the lunch line, their account will be debited for their lunch purchase (hot lunch or milk).
What is my family lunch account balance?
The school website will be available for you to check your balance. If a family account balance reaches a negative balance, lunch and milk privileges may be revoked. Lunch and milk privileges will resume when the negative balance is paid and the account has a credit balance.
Can I have lunch with my child?
Yes. Family members are welcome to dine with their student in the Family Dining Area. Older siblings may eat lunch with a younger sibling; unrelated classmates are not allowed join.
If you wish to have hot lunch, call the front office (888-3250) before 8:00 a.m. to be included in the lunch count. Please check in with the office upon your arrival before you come to the cafeteria. The cost of any adult or preschool lunch cannot be deducted from your family account, therefore cash is required. Please have exact change and no bills over $10.00. We do not keep a lot of extra cash on hand. Please pay this amount at the front desk at the time you check-in.
How do I know what’s for lunch?
The lunch menu will be posted on the school website for the month. The menu is subject to change/substitution without notice due to availability.
What is the “offer vs. serve” policy?
All students will be allowed to participate in the hot lunch “offer vs. serve” program. This is a federal regulation that allows students to choose three to five basic food groups from the menu of the day in lieu of the full lunch. The purpose of this program is to cut down on the waste of food.
What if my student has a milk allergy?
Please contact the nurse if your child has a milk allergy.
Can my student eat lunch if they arrive late to school?
Yes, they are welcome to enjoy a hot lunch but you must call the cafeteria (913-895-0661) before 8:30 a.m. and no later than 9:00 a.m. to be included in the lunch count.
Is lunch off-premises available?
Students who leave the premises for lunch must be signed out in the school office by their parents.
Federal Law: The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, the U.S. Congress established a new requirement that all school districts with a federally-funded school meals program develop and implement wellness policies that address nutrition and physical activity by the start of the school year.
State Law: Senate Bill 154 required the Kansas State Board of Education to establish wellness policy guidelines. This bill was written into law as Kansas Statute 72-5128.
Holy Trinity is committed to providing a school environment that promotes and protects children’s health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity. HTS, in accordance with the federal and state laws mentioned above, has established the following policies:
Water bottles are allowed in classrooms (except computer labs).
No second full lunches will be served to students.
This policy was implemented with the assistance of the Archdiocese's Sharing Policy in response to the increasing number of student allergic reactions to certain foods in our schools.
ALL food that is brought into the school TO BE SHARED MUST be prepackaged and have labels that have the allergy information listed. (This is a requirement of all packaged foods by the FDA)
If one of the allergies listed mentions peanut, tree nut, made in a peanut factory/facility or may contain traces of peanuts, it is NOT allowed. This applies even if no student in the classroom is allergic. If you have questions or in doubt, Please call the school we are here to assist.
A student bringing peanut butter to school for lunch or snack (for themselves) is ok under that policy, however we highly recommend non-peanut snacks in the classrooms. At lunch, we can control the environment for those with serious allergies.
Students are not to share food at lunch. This includes parents bringing in outside food for “a friend.” It must only be for your child.
The cafeteria kitchen is a peanut- and nut-free area; therefore, any item, such as cookies or ice cream, from the cafeteria or labeled as shared, is also peanut- and nut-free.
Preparing baked goods at home and sharing at school Is not allowed. Even if the label on the box is bought in, it’s not allowed. We can’t control the home prep environment, thus the policy applies.
ANY non-peanut tree nut labeled birthday treats are allowed as long as they are prepackaged with a label.
Most cupcakes/cookies at local grocery stores are made in an environment where contamination could have occurred. Look for boxed donuts, cookies, crackers, etc. that are made outside a bakery; some brands are likely made to fit this policy. At any time, if you have a question about snack items, please call the school before purchasing any item so we can assist you, if needed.
We maintain a Safe School Treat Suggestion list that we continually update. Please check when buying treats for the students. If you have any questions regarding snacks, please call the school. We are here to assist.
