Herbert Thompson Primary School strongly encourages pupils to wear a school uniform. Properly developed and appropriately implemented, a school uniform can:
provide a sense of identity and cohesion within the school and instils pride in its achievements;
can support positive behaviour and relationships;
can ensure pupils dress appropriately for learning activity;
can enable pupils to share in a common identity which embraces their particular requirements;
can help reduce inequalities between pupils and some triggers for bullying;
support and promote the ethos of the school;
reduce the chance of any health and safety concerns;
provide good value for money.
“Wearing school uniform shows we have a school identity and that we have high expectations of ourselves. When we are wearing our school uniform, we are focused and ready to learn. It’s great that our parents don’t have to worry about us ruining or best clothes or about what we are going to wear each day. We are proud to wear the Herbert Thompson logo.”
Children must not bring valuable equipment, such as mobile phones or computer games in school. We also encourage parents to send children into school with as little as possible, e.g. they do not need to bring bags unless they are bringing lunch to school. Lost or damaged items belonging to staff or children are not covered by any insurance. We teach our children to respect our own and other people’s property, but things do get broken or lost occasionally. Please ensure that all property, bags and clothing is labelled with full names. If property or equipment that belongs to the school gets lost or willfully broken, parents may be asked to pay the replacement costs.
If belongings get lost and our names are not on them, they will be hung on the lost property rail near Reception. Please contact Mrs Perry if you'd like to check lost property.
We collect pre-loved school uniform, including coats, bags and shoes. These are washed in school and hung on the rail in the main Reception area. All we ask is for a small donation that goes back into our 'Friends of Herbert Thompson' account.
