If children become unwell in school or has an accident, we may need to contact you quickly. Please help us by making sure we have up to date contact details, including home and mobile numbers. Often accidents happen that don't require a phone call home and and instead your child will be given a medical slip. A phone call home will always be made in the case of a head injury. Sometimes accidents happen which need immediate medical help and we have many First Aiders in the school who are trained to administer first aid and if necessary school will ring for an ambulance. If your child has any allergies or medical conditions, please make sure school is aware of all the details.
Many children in school suffer with Asthma; if your child needs an asthma pump please speak to Mrs Perry in the school office. If medication that needs to be taken throughout the day, it can be supervised by an adult with the written consent of the parents in exceptional cases. All medication must be suitably labelled and is then stored securely in the school office.
The school nurse, Catherine can be contacted at the Parkview medical centre on 02920 560752 and she also visits the school as needed. She is very happy to meet with parents or carers to talk about any health issues that might be worrying you. Check with Mrs Perry if you wish to see her. Routine medical checks are carried out by the School Nurse. You will be given notice of a date and time if you are required to attend a medical. You may request a medical inspection if you have a concern and the School Nurse will be pleased to discuss issues with you. Dental and vision checks are made in school and you will be advised of these visits and whether subsequent treatment is deemed necessary.
Headlice Sometimes headlice can be a problem in school. Please could parents or guardians check their child’s hair regularly with a nit comb. If head lice are found, please ring the school and a standard letter will be sent home to everyone in your child’s class is aware and can then check their child.
Tip: A good way of checking hair is to cover it in conditioner before you comb the nit comb through.
