At Herbert Thompson, we have a wonderful Breakfast Club and Mrs Page oversees the provision. It opens from 8:00am every weekday morning and serves warm drinks, toast, muffins, cereal, fruit and fruit juice.
** During Covid, all sessions start a 8:15am and children have toast and breakfast grab bags.
There are many activities in Breakfast Club to keep us all busy while we wait for school to start. If you would like your child to come to our free Breakfast Club please collect a form from the office.
We have a separate canteen at Herbert Thompson and our cook Ellis and her team work really hard to make healthy school dinners. School dinner costs £2.50 per day and £12.50 per week. You can pay weekly for dinners by using the school Parent Pay system, please visit www.parentpay.com or contact Mrs Perry for advice on 02920 561115.
Free school meals are available to families who qualify. Application forms are available from the school, on our website and from Pupil Services Department at County Hall, Atlantic Wharf Cardiff Telephone 029207872000. Help completing forms can be provided if needed.
We are a healthy school and ask for all lunchboxes to be healthy. We also have toast available for children at breaktimes. All children are supervised at lunchtime by Mid-day Supervisors and Learning Support Assistants (many are First Aiders) and there is a focus on ensuring that children have opportunities to play games and engage in physical activity each day. We also have a ‘Chill Zone’ group at lunchtimes where children can go to make new friends and engage in a range of activities including arts and craft activities.
Adult Supervision Before and After School
If you have arranged for your children to attend breakfast club, please ensure you hand them over to the breakfast club lead (see Mrs Perry for more information). The staff from breakfast club will then go out with the children to their circles at the start of the day. They will supervise the children from breakfast club. If you have a Foundation Phase aged child, please remain with them in the yard until the teacher comes to the gate or yard. After your child has been handed over to you at the end of the day, they are the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Please ensure your children are well behaved in the school grounds and that they don't climb on the school equipment. Children under 16 years old will not be allowed to collect other children. Often Year 5 & 6 children walk to school or home from school on their own, please ensure your child has the necessary skills before allowing this.
Anyone else who collects your child should be known to us so please make every effort to introduce them to class teachers. In the event of someone collecting who is unknown, we ask that you supply a unique password and inform us of this prior to collection.
