The Transportation Department's mission is to provide oversight to pupil transportation operations, transportation planning, and the management of the internal Huntsville City Schools motor pool of approximately 100 vehicles.
The Transportation Department is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities.
Plans, establishes, and administers transportation programs.
Coordinates with bus contractors on bus contract agreements and with all departments and schools on bus transportation needs; ensures that necessary school bus reports are made in a timely manner.
Directs the inspection, maintenance, and repair of district-owned vehicles.
Assists traffic control problems at schools/centers with Huntsville City Transportation Department and law enforcement agencies.
Provides data for the preparation of a budget as required.
Develops, maintains, and improves departmental operating procedures to improve departmental efficiency and effective use of school district resources.
