Welcome to Huntsville City Schools Facility Services. Our mission is to positively enhance the education process through an array of daily services. These services cross paths with all district personnel and community stakeholders. Facility Services consist of over 130 employees that cover a wide range of support; custodial services, pest control, facility use, print shop, and waste management.
Custodians Services support a variety of needs that includes cleaning, setting up and tearing down for programs, cleaning bodily fluids and services programs. There are 180 custodians that work 2 shifts throughout the district.
Print Shop operations support all school sites. Our capabilities extend to binding, printing, folding, art design, posters, laminating, color printing, and various support opportunities. These services can be done faster, less expensive and with a personal touch. Pricing is considerably lower than normal competitors.
Facility Usage coordinates the usage of over 4.5 million square feet of space. There are over 1,900 requests per year. Because of this service, schools require additional cleaning, maintenance and quality customer services for all who utilize the facilities. We have incorporated leadership within our services that extend throughout the weekend to provide seven complete days of community services that represent Huntsville City Schools. Services are required for after hours and weekend events. Stakeholders include school sports, PTA, civic organizations, and citizens of Huntsville.
Pest Control (IPM) stands for Integrated Pest Management. In 2013, Facility Services has changed the paradigm of just relying on work orders. Our IPM program extends its services to all 40 schools and building cites at least (1) time per month. This service creates the support of working to prevent and reduce pest rather than to use chemicals. We contract these services; therefore, our change is a part of their overall services. After every service, a report is generated to add to the communication and services expectations. In addition, logbooks are placed in the main office and cafeteria kitchen to increase communications on pest sightings.
Waste Management is another service that is contracted out that works in support of all operations. There are over 2,000 bags of custodial trash and 600 bags of cafeteria trash discarded daily. In addition, every school has an 8 yard cardboard dumpster as well. We constantly monitor these services to ensure timely services and to reduce the attraction of pests.
