COURSE OBJECTIVE:
To develop an understanding of the applications of the principles of natural sciences, especially biology and physiology, to modern medicine through evaluation of pre-clinical research.
COURSE OUTCOME:
An understanding of the disease process; processes of drug discovery and development.
Knowledge of the actions of important drugs used clinically and in research.
An understanding of how the actions of new drugs are characterized and how drugs can be used to investigate questions of biological processes and signaling.
Use of modern molecular approaches to solve pharmacological problems, and an appreciation of their application to specific biological problems.
Knowledge of applied laboratory techniques and analytical approaches in different areas of medicine including the analysis and interpretation of data derived from experiments.
