REVISITING PHARMACOLOGY

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

To develop an understanding of the applications of the principles of natural sciences, especially biology and physiology, to modern medicine through evaluation of pre-clinical research.

COURSE OUTCOME:

• An understanding of the disease process; processes of drug discovery and development.

• Knowledge of the actions of important drugs used clinically and in research.

• An understanding of how the actions of new drugs are characterized and how drugs can be used to investigate questions of biological processes and signaling.

• Use of modern molecular approaches to solve pharmacological problems, and an appreciation of their application to specific biological problems.

• Knowledge of applied laboratory techniques and analytical approaches in different areas of medicine including the analysis and interpretation of data derived from experiments.
