This week in year 1, we are reading the book 'Superkid' by Claire Freedman and Sarah McIntyre.
There's a boy quite ordinary, He looks like me or you, but in secret... he is SUPERKID - There's nothing he can't do! With x-ray vision, super speed and bravery by the bag-load, Superkid is always on hand to save the day! He can spot people trying to steal your bubblegum, he knows just what to do with a plateful of broccoli, and he can make even pirates surrender.
This week in English, we will be using our core text to look at how 'super' we are! We will be looking at character descriptions and events, adjectives and nouns, as well as practising our oracy skills to help us to build simple sentences and understand sentence structure. This term, we will be continuing with our focus on the children's vocabulary and 'Expanding Our Vocabulary' every day. This will involve gathering three new words each week relating to our class text and displaying these in each classroom. We will be teaching the spelling and explicit meaning of the words, using them in different contexts, and encouraging children to use these words in their own vocabulary.
