Seating / Environment
Since this is a lecture heavy department, students should be facing the front in rows. Another option is to have students in groups facing the front because there are a lot of projects and students can also help each other with lecturing notes.
During conversation
Students should be able to support each other through conversation and share notes. This ties into the seating where students can be put into groups where they can share and talk about the notes.
Toolbox
Have students do annotations on reading either in class or for homework. This can help because History is a very note-heavy subject and these annotations can help students retain information better. Annotating can be anything from comments on the reading to questions or even summaries or a section.
